BATUMI TRAVEL GUIDE – GEORGIA
The relatively new city of Batumi, located on the Black Sea shore, is Georgia’s most popular tourist destination for both Russians and locals.
Batumi is home to the most beautiful beaches in Georgia (if you don’t count Abkhazia). It also has the most exciting nightlife and dining scene.
Batumi is a popular but unpopular destination for backpackers.
BATUMI: WHAT TO DO AND MORE
Batumi is the capital of the Black Sea’s gambling hubs. It is also home to some of the most trashy tourism I’ve ever seen in the region.
Walking along the promenade in a city is difficult without hearing the horrible, loud music from the completely tasteless bars.
You will see Russian tourists drinking half-naked and pot-bellied at any hour of the day.
A city that, despite being one of Europe’s poorest, spends millions on extravagant and pointless monuments.
Batumi, a Dubai-wannabe, is the antithesis of everything we believe and our principles. It’s different from a place we would like to travel to first.
OUR PERSONAL VIEW ON BATUMI
We enjoyed it because we love weird stuff, and Batumi has plenty of it.
We didn’t like it for its casinos, resorts, and wild parties. But we were able to see it through a different lens. For example, how could the most traditional country in Europe construct a massive skyscraper with Ferris wheels attached?
It was a great choice because of its proximity to Turkey. Many Turkish-style cafes serve Turkish coffee and Turkish food.
It was a great place to live because it had a soul. The Old City of Batumi is also a modern and Tbilisi-like setting.
BATUMI TOUR GUIDE
This guide will tell you everything you need to know about Batumi. It also includes tips.
THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BATUMI
Batumi is a place that can be enjoyed all year.
It all depends on your taste.
Summer is the best time to visit the beach and swim.
You can always come, just like us, if you’re interested in hanging out.
Going outside of summer (shoulder Season) is more popular, as it is less crowded and hotter, and the prices are lower.
HOW DO I GET AROUND BATUMI
You can walk to everything in Batumi, so there’s no need to use public transport or taxis.
It is only recommended to be used if you are going to Mtsvane Kontskhi’s botanical garden and beach. In that case, you will need a marshrutka to get one or 2GEL.
WHAT TO DO IN BATUMI
Batumi is about more than just hanging out in Old City (which I highly recommend). Still, it is also about walking around and seeing the many strange monuments, buildings, and European-like squares.
Alphabet Tower
The tower of 130 meters dominates the promenade, which is wrapped in the Georgian alphabet.
The large ball at the top is a busy rotating bar/restaurant.
It is expensive, but you can still see it.
Europe Square
Fake cities often name things after places they want to be related to.
This is evident in Batumi’s Europe Square.
Europe Square looks like a square in Central Europe, thanks to its magnificent architecture and buildings.
This is the central area of the town, and it’s an excellent spot to begin your self-guided walking tour.
Piazza Venecia
Another example of an area created ad hoc to attract tourists.
Piazza Venecia tries to resemble Piazza San Marco in Venice.
It has unique architecture and expensive restaurants.
Skyscraper with a Ferris Wheel
This is the strangest building I’ve ever seen in Batumi.
This is a tall building with a Ferris wheel attached at the top.
Although it belongs to Hotel Meridien, it has yet to be opened and has been in construction for years.
Ferris Wheel
You can ride this 55-meter Ferris wheel up to Batumi for only 5GEL.
Highly recommended.
Love Statues On The Boulevard
They claim Batumi is The City of Love. However, they are not the only ones who call Sighnaghi (another Georgian town) the City of Love.
There are many love statues with hearts and other things around the city. The most striking ones are located along the boulevard.
Nino & Ali
This strange, metal-moving statue attracts the attention of many tourists.
It is based on Kurban Said’s novel, the local version of Romeo & Juliet—the love story between a Christian Georgian girl and a Muslim Azeri man.
Batumi Botanical Gardens
Although it is not a regular botanical garden, it has one of the largest collections of flora anywhere in the world, which includes Japanese and Mexican gardens.
It is 9km from the town center, as mentioned in the transportation section.
You can get there by taking a marshrutka (very close to the center) from Chavchavadze Street. The garden’s entrance fee is 15GEL.
