15 UNCOMMONLY FORGOTTEN VACATION ITEMS
It’s that time again! Summer nights are long and breezy, with warm sun licking your ice cream cone. The Oregon coast is the perfect place to escape the stress and enjoy the summer weather. What happens if you forget to bring the most important item on your long-distance trip? Here’s a list of 15 frequently forgotten items for vacation and some tips to help you remember them.
Make an inventory. Before you start packing for vacation, make a list. Once you have checked off an item, mark it as complete. It is important that the list be kept somewhere you can easily find it. Write it on the whiteboard or put it in your fridge if you have one.
Bathroom items – Toothbrushes, razors, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, floss, toiletries, soap, etc. It is easy to forget these items when on vacation. These items become part of our daily routine because they are frequently used. We forget to put them in the bathroom because that is the only place we use them. Hmm. This stuff is affordable and easily found everywhere!
Vision Items – Contacts, glasses, and contact solution. Contact solution is often forgotten. Many people don’t forget their glasses and contacts even if they wear them every day. Why would you need a big bottle of contact solution if you already have your contacts in? Reading glasses are often forgotten at home by people who require them. After putting on your contacts or glasses, take them out of the bathroom and put them in your bag. It’s more common to look down in the room than the bathroom to see what you need to get into your bag.
Chargers– With the technology age at its peak, chargers are essential for almost everything: phones, tablets, smartphones, laptops and hand-held gaming consoles. Although everyone should put down technology for a while, phones and cameras are essential for emergencies and capture memories. Make sure you grab your phone and the charger when you get up on the first day of your trip. You can do the same for any other devices you may wish to bring. You will not only remember to charge your device, but you will also have it ready for long drives or flights.
Rain gear and umbrellas: The Oregon coast is well-known for its rainy weather, so make sure you have a raincoat or an umbrella. To see any severe weather, you can check the forecast for the area you will be staying in. You should be aware that the weather can change at any time, so you are prepared. You’ll be more likely not to see umbrellas or raincoats as you go.
First Aid Kit Accidents can happen even when you’re on vacation. To protect yourself from infection, bring along a first aid kit, including Neosporin, band-aids, and hydrogen peroxide if you or your family get nicks and scratches.
Makeup remover. Many items that are often forgotten can be found in the bathrooms. You can use the same method to find your other bathroom products here. After you’ve finished applying your makeup, pack it in your suitcase. Makeup remover can be purchased at any location on the trip if you forget it.
Cash, Some places on vacation do not accept cash. While you might be able to find your bank in your city, it may not always be possible. To ensure you have enough money to spend, go to the bank before you leave, or the day you return.
Prescription medicine Many people forget to take these pills because they are often found in the bathroom. You should check your bathrooms before every vacation. Double-check, triple-check, then check again. Because it’s second nature, our minds can often overlook the things we use every day. You can request a refill at your local pharmacy if you forget your medication. Most pharmacies will be able to give you the medication you need for your weekend unless you do it regularly.
Underwear– This is another necessity in life. It’s often more important than clothes to have underwear. You can always buy some new underwear while you’re on vacation if yours gets lost. You’d probably need them anyway.
Belt — Nobody likes saggy pants! Wear your belt while on the coast, or attach it to another pair. Then pack them in your suitcase.
Headphones No one wants to be forced to listen to another person’s music while enjoying their movie or video. Although headphones are quite affordable on the road, you can still plug your headphones into your tablet or phone while it charges overnight. You’ll remember three things as soon as you take out the charger, headphones and phone. Go you!
Beach accessories Sunglasses, bathing suits, sunscreen, and more. These items are essential for summer sunbathing. For affordable replacements, you can visit your local Wal-Mart and Target.
Reading material – Many people now have Kindles or Nooks to read anywhere. If you prefer paper, you can visit the local library and pick up a free book.
Snacks If you are traveling by car to Oregon’s coast, make sure to pack snacks. Although you can always stop at the gas station, it can be expensive and reduce your spending money. For more options and lower prices, stop at a grocery store while you’re on the way to another city.
It’s a vacation! You can always find the items you forgot on your next vacation! Keep safe when you visit the Oregon coast again!
