WHY EVERYONE SHOULD DO IT ONCE
Solo travel. It sounds terrifying, don’t you think? We don’t blame you. We don’t blame you if you picture yourself alone, feeling lonely and lost, and not knowing anyone to talk to. Solo travel can be just as fulfilling, if not more so, than going on adventures with family and friends. It can be daunting to navigate the world solo. But there are many benefits to solo travel. Here are five of them!
COMPLETE FREEDOM
Travelling alone allows you to plan you are itinerary and make adjustments as you wish. Travelling with family or friends can mean you miss out on things you don’t want to do. You can arrange your day to visit all the museums in a city and skip the beaches. You might even love a city so much that you decide to alter your itinerary to make it more enjoyable.
MEET NEW PEOPLE
You know that feeling when you go to a party and only get to know one person. Then you miss out on the opportunity to meet new people because you are too busy talking to that person all night. Imagine doing the same thing abroad and not being able to make connections with the incredible people you might meet along your journey! Travelling alone can be very rewarding because you will meet people from all corners of the globe. You’ll also make friends from your home country. You’re also more likely to interact with locals, who can give you tips on where to eat and help you navigate (and the overwhelming public transport system). ).
BECOME A PROBLEM SOLVER
You’re bound to encounter many complications when travelling alone. Are you worried about lost luggage? It’s possible to become a master at learning the local language suddenly. Are you stuck at the wrong station? Soon you’ll be able to ride the trains like a local. Did you miss your connecting flight? You’ll be setting up your new career as a travel agent in less than five minutes. You can’t rely on others to help you out of sticky situations. It is up to you to be comfortable with your solutions.
YOU WILL GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Travelling alone can force you to step out of your comfort zone. This is especially true if you are a first-time traveller. It will be difficult to find your way in a foreign country and make friends with strangers, but it will get easier over time. We agree with the old saying that “life starts at the edge of your comfort zone”. Solo travel will allow you to explore new areas and have experiences that you didn’t know existed. Everybody has their comfort zone. Yours may be making new friends at the hostel where you are staying, while others might be conquering a fear of heights. You’ll be proud of your decision and will look back on it in years to follow.
IMPROVE CONFIDENCE
When you tell friends and family you plan to travel alone, the most common response is, “Are you sure?” This sounds a bit dangerous. These comments, while they are meant to be supportive and encouraging, can also cause you to doubt your plans and instil fear. There will be some bumps in the road, and you should be careful when visiting new places. But once you see yourself flourishing and conquering all obstacles, you’ll be able to look back and wonder, “What was I worrying about?” You will return home with new language skills, new stories, and a fresh outlook on your abilities and confidence. You conquered all those mountains!
