DAINTREE RAINFOREST DREAMTIME SILKY OAKS LODGE

DAINTREE RAINFOREST DREAMTIME SILKY OAKS LODGE

Entering the Daintree rainforest in Queensland, Australia, is like entering a world of luxury. Silky Oaks is a great place to stay.

You can be sipping a cold beer on the beach in Port Douglas and then find yourself in the oldest rainforest on the planet.

Daintree Rainforest

Daintree Rainforest has a lifespan of 180 million years and covers an area of 1200 km2.

Our indigenous guide, from the Kuku Yalanji Tribe, will take you through ancient forests to give you the feeling of exploring a new and exotic land.

Dreamtime Walk through Daintree Rainforest

Harold (aka Mooka) met us at the Mossman Gorge Visitors Centre, where we took a bus up to the gorge’s entrance.

We were in a guided group that did the Dreamtime Gorge Walk.

This is a sacred area; you can only enter with a Kuku Yalanji member.

Smoking Ceremony

Before starting our walk, we had to participate in a smoke ceremony. We followed Mooka as he walked around the smoldering fire to keep away spirits and spells.

Mooka has to ask for Mooka’s permission before bringing us into this forest.

  • We love to hike and enjoy our journey through Victoria’s Great Ocean Walk up to the Twelve Apostles.

Daintree Rainforest: What to see

Mooka was raised in the forest by his grandparents.

He was chosen to learn from his elders, not his brothers or sisters. He says that he has been able to heal many people. He had healed many illnesses, even when all hope seemed lost.

The rainforest has everything you need to live. He knows what plants will cure you of a fever or give you energy. A forest is a healing place, but it can also be deadly.

Rainforests are dangerous

We were walking along the path when we noticed a very spikey bush. Dave put his hand up to touch the plant, and Mooka warned him not to.

He showed us how to make boomerangs and didgeridoos out of plants and trees and which plants sting.

Mooka once said that the rainforest was like a pharmacy and Woolworth rolled into one.

He has been a Medicine Man for 38 years and is now living his destiny. His grandfather saw him in a teaching role as an adult, and now he is teaching us about the ancestors’ ways.

These tours are led by Aboriginals, providing an excellent way to learn more about their culture and history. This tour gives us a glimpse into a culture that we barely know.

Silky Oaks Lodge

The Silky Oaks Lodge was a tranquil and luxurious place to stay, just 10 minutes from Mossman Gorge.

The perfect place to explore the jungle, as the hotel is located in a rainforest!

The property is a series of jungle paths leading to Mossman River treehouses.

Mossman River, a freshwater stream fed by the mountains, allows you to swim without worrying about crocodiles. You feel relaxed the moment you step into Silky Oaks.

The Treehouse Restaurant has an open-sided design that looks out over the river and jungle.

As you relax on the lounge chairs, you can enjoy freshly squeezed welcome juice.

Here you can spend your days relaxing by the pool, designed to feel like a jungle.

Yoga, snorkeling, and kayaking are all included in the price.

You can also picnic at a sandy billabong beach or on jungle paths.

Treehouse Lodge

The four-post king-size bed was available for us to sleep on or outside. We could also read on the two comfortable day beds and enjoy our selection of teas and espressos.

Silky Oaks Lodge Spa

Silky Oaks is not a spa, so we had to scream at ourselves for waking up from our naps and relaxation to visit The Healing Waters Spa.

I decided to get a facial because my skin had been suffering after spending the winter in Canada outdoors.

My face was revitalized and calmed after 60 minutes of exfoliating, cleansing, and moisturizing.

Dave had The Soul to Soul Treatment, where his arms and shoulders are massaged with aromatherapy to release tension.

Soul to Soul is called so because after the upper body has been massaged, the legs and feet are also massaged to improve circulation and reduce swelling.

We were both a jello mess after our treatments. We were at the right place, so it was fine.

The Daintree Rainforest: Ultimate Luxury Escape

Silky Oaks has everything you could need at your fingertips. The chef at the main lodge uses local ingredients to create modern Australian cuisine with a fusion of Asian and Mediterranean flavors.

The lodge has been designed to be eco-friendly, blending seamlessly into its jungle environment.

The Daintree Rainforest in Tropical North Queensland is a great place to explore.
