Prince Edward Island (also known as PEI in Canada) is small but has lots to offer. These are the top things to do on PEI when you’re there.

Charlottetown

Charlottetown has beautiful waterfront views, art centers, boutique shops, and outdoor patios. The perfect place to take a walk and explore the historic buildings and bustling downtown. The waterfront Delta Hotels by Marriott was our base, and we could walk everywhere.

Shopping, Victoria Row’s sidewalk cafes, and Anne of Green Gables Shop are all places you should not miss while visiting Charlottetown. The historic Province House, the home of the Charlottetown Conference in September 1864, is a must-see for history enthusiasts. Province House was the beginning of a series of meetings that would eventually lead to the Dominion of Canada. V

Charlottetown Festival

Charlottetown Festival, which features Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, is the main attraction in the summer. It has been in existence since 1965. It holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest-running musical. (I was convinced Anne would be my role in it when I auditioned. It didn’t.

It isn’t the only thing you can see. The performing arts center also has two studio theatres, a cabaret-style theater, an art gallery, a memorial hall, and an art gallery. Even if the musical differs from your thing, it’s worth visiting.

Heritage Place Anne Of Green Gables

Canadians grew up with Anne of Green Gables. My childhood was filled with this beloved character. It was written by Lucy Maud Montgomery and followed the story of Anne, an orphan (with an “e”) who is mistakenly sent to work at a PEI farm. Mathew Cuthbert and Marilla Cuthbert were looking for a boy to help them with the farm work. But they got Anne. It is a beloved book with many hijinks and is one of my favorite books. Canada has seen many movies, mini-series, and spinoffs. Sarah Polley stars in Road to Avonlea.

Cavendish

Cavendish is an obvious attraction for Prince Edward Island visitors. Montgomery was a Cavendish resident, and there were many tributes to her.

The LM. The Montgomery’s Cavendish National Historic Site can be found on the farm Montgomery lived on. Anne of Green Gables museum is located at the neighboring farmstead that inspired Montgomery’s novel. Follow Anne of Green Gables’ footsteps on a guided tour. You’ll be able to walk among the sites mentioned in the book, including Avonlea Village and Balsam Hollow Trail.

Lighthouse Tour

Although the island is small, it boasts 63 lighthouses. Thirty-five of them are still in use and are significant tourist attractions. To see these beautiful lighthouses, you can hop around Prince Edward Island. Why are there so many? To preserve its heritage, PEI created the lighthouse society in 1996.

Nine of the nine lighthouses can be visited, and seven are designated as national historic sites. You will find a lighthouse wherever you travel on Prince Edward Island.

Points East Coastal Drive

Points East Coastal Drive offers six lighthouses that you can visit, including some of the most beautiful lighthouses on Prince Edward Island.

It’s an incredible drive to visit Point Prim Lighthouse and Panmure Lighthouse. East Point Lighthouse, aka “Canada’s Confederation Lighthouse,” is also on the itinerary. Wood Islands Lighthouse can also be seen from this point. It is famous for its many historic lighthouses and has picturesque towns, beaches, and cultural and historical sites.
